This is intended to be like Sertra's hip-hop thread... except with hardcore. Hardcore music has helped me through some extremely, extremely hard times, and I find a lot of the really sincere bands to have uplifting lyrics. Honestly, there have been days where I was just driving around blasting hardcore, and I would feel on top of the fucking world. It's also made me really look at my life, and how I'm living it. I find a lot of things bands sing about to be really important (such as friendship, and being proud of who you are and want to be).

Plus, gang vocals are the shit.

So without further ado, I give you the first band I think people should check out:

Champion.

This song is from their second album, Promises Kept, and is definitely one of the most powerful hardcore songs I've heard.

Lyrics that stand out:

"Alone in a crowd, but we're still standing strong
With X'ed up fists and sing-alongs
Times like these are what we live for
These days are more than we'd ever hoped for"
The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

Do you consider H20 to be hardcore?  I know that they think they are, but their music just seems a little to "soft" to me.

Yes I do.

Even if they are poppy, there are definitely hardcore elements in the song. Fast drumming and timing, as well as a breakdown.

I like hardcore, but I think I need to know some better bands. So this thread should help me out. Also, do you consider A Wilhelm Scream hardcore?

I kinda like these guys, I'm gonna see them for the third time soon:

I like West Coast hardcore a lot better than East Coast.

The lead singer is a Hungarian emigrant, so a good number of their songs are rants against authoritarian communism.

History is not something that happens to people--it is the activity of people. Culture does not dictate human behavior--it is the sum of human behavior. Technological progree is not a force of nature, either.
There is no civilization without civilizing, no capitalization without us capitalizing and capitulating.

I wouldn't consider Social Combat to be hardcore.

I just listened to that song ten minutes before I read this thread. It's up at the top of my list at the moment.

Hey Steve, do you consider this hardcore?
Either way, I like this song, despite the saddening lack of gang vocals.

More positive straight edge hardcore for you fools.

The First Step is youth crew in the same vain as Champion. In fact, I think there were members of Champion in The First Step. This band is legit as fuck.

The First Step is from one of the Carolinas and Champion is from Seattle, so I don't think it's the same members. I might be wrong, though.

I read on wikipedia that the guitarist from Champion played in The First Step, and now plays in Betrayed.
