I haven't really thought about it a whole lot, but I think Marx was saying that first of all the things he wrote aren't meant to be an ideology but rather an analysis of things. Also maybe because a lot of Marxists are idiots.
Basically, I think Marx said a lot of really fucking awesome stuff, but I'm not afraid to disagree with him or take influence from other ideas.
