Why is nobody talking about this? WE LOWERED A ROBOT ONTO MARS WITH A FUCKING FLYING SPACE CRANE!
The best part is (and I hate to say it) it's facebook and twitter pages where it reefers to itself in the first person, unfortunately, NASA is using them to upload images to, and both of those turn nice pictures into shit.

This is exciting! Though, please don't get annoyed at my ignorance, but wasn't there a robot on Mars before? And took pictures, or am I now eventually so damaged from pop culture, that what I have in mind is from a science fiction movie? :ph34r:

Yes, we have sent three rovers to mars, I think one other of them is still running.

the small one at the bottom is Sojourner (1997) the one on the left is like Spirit and Opportunity from 2004

Curiosity is the size of a small car and has more scientific equipment on it then anything that has been sent before (IT HAS A FUCKING LASER THAT CAN DISINTEGRATE ROCKS AND ANALYZE THEM WITH A SPECTROMETER!). It has 3-d cameras, cause that is the fad today and also it landed in a different place Mars is a big planet, we need all the rovers we can get.

black and white photos can convey the same resolution and detail with much smaller filesizes over less bandwith. transmission speed from mars is something like dial-up internet with 14 minute latency. Curiosity can take full-color high definition videos!
