And if I say that, people think I'm racist. I think it's ridiculous. It's ok to say that is black and proud of it, so isn't this racism? Also, if you say you're proud to be gay, everyone says that you're so brave and blah blah stuff like that. But when my sister said she's proud to be straight, her friends told her that she's homophobic. Stupid.

No, and I understand that minorities need to be proud of themselves and whatever, but it's fucking annoying to hear that I'm racist only because I like the fact that I'm white. It doesn't mean that I wouldn't be proud if I'd be black, it means that I'm proud whoever I am. In fact, the annoying part is that people always misunderstand what I'm trying to say. Just like now.
And actually, there are people who think that black people are better than anyone else, and that's racism.

I apologize that I made this thread, I am very tired, I didn't think at all about this whole thing. I know that when you read what I first wrote, you think I'm just a stupid little kid who doesn't know anything about racism. But that's only because I am very bad at trying to say what I mean. Especialy in english. And for some reason people misunderstand me often, so maybe I should just keep my mouth shut. But I hope you don't think I'm an idiot, and with all respect, you don't get my point here. Please just ignore this topic, I know it sounds stupid.

First of all, I never really understood the idea to be proud of something, that you haven't achieved yourself and which wasn't your choice.

Second, it's a whole different thing, when people, who are discriminated against, use the expression for the purpose of getting acknowledged and identify themselves with who they are. But if someone, who is privileged because of a random trait they didn't achieve themselves, is rubbing it into other people's faces, it's just silly.

To be fair, all races have engaged in capitalism, slavery, etc.

Things like "black pride" are movements and slogans designed to empower oppressed people. Pride in something that society views as something one shouldn't be proud of.

White people already own the world (except Jews--Jews disproportionately have a lot of power), so why would you need to make a point of it?

As I said, you don't get my point here. I know that if someone is gay, they have to be proud of it, and they have to tell it to people. But, in my opinion homophobia doesn't exist in Finland. Of course there are homophobics, but in general, gays have no problems in here. Same thing with blacks. And yes, I sometimes have the feeling that (in Finland) minorities have more rights in some things. Of course, the whole situation is different in different countries.

Sure....it's okay to be proud to be who you are. But does it really define you that you are white?
I don't think skin color is who I am. I don't think I'd answer "straight" when s.o. asks me what I am like. Even if you have no legal discrimination against homosexuals there is still social discrimination. It needs courage. In my opinion coming out defines you more than not coming out. This is probably why their pride is generally more accepted than your pride.

I agree with all of you. And my original point was actually that, that when someone says that is proud to be white, everyone immediately think that he's racist. Yea, I think that it sounds idiotic to say that is proud to be white.

This.  I'm not proud to have brown hair.  Why would I be proud to have white skin?  It's just a character trait that was decided because of my DNA.

I always saw things like "gay pride" as being more about taking pride in being open about yourself and not allowing others to dictate how to live your life.
