Academic year 2013-2014 I plan on studying in Canada.

My options are
  • Guelph
  • Trent
  • Western
Trent does the course I study specifically (International Development), Western is in London which I really love, and i've been to Guelph a few times because my Uncle is currently a professor there.

Anyway, anyone know whos anything, what do you think?

- Trent is one of the worst schools in Ontario. They give free tuition to anyone with an average above 90% in high school because they can't attract any decent students.

- Guelph is a decent school but nothing special. From what I've heard the town isn't very nice.

- Western is a party school with a pretty good reputation.

If you're going on exchange I would choose Western because you'll probably have the most fun there. If you're transferring I would look at other schools in bigger cities like McGill, University of Toronto, or UBC.

Thanks for the input, I reckon i'm gonna go with Western from the advice of my Uncle and Step mum who are both professors in Canada and some friends, a lot of people have good things to say about Western so sounds gooood, I basically just want a good social scene and nightlife but with a reasonably reputable uni, so sounds good.

Going to Canada so I can be close to my family for a year.
Because right now i'm going to be lucky to see my dad, brother and stepmum once a year.
If I can have a year of being close to them I would be the happiest girl alive.

The downside of Western is stereotype of vapid rich kids from Toronto who have no interests outside of spending their parents' money and screaming about how awesome Western is.

Example:

I go to Queen's though, so I'm inundated with anti-Western rhetoric all the time.

EDIT: It also snows there a LOT. They had to postpone exams last year until after Christmas because the entire city shut down for a couple weeks. People had to spend their Christmas break studying.

this reminds me of my exchange at west virginia university haha a lot of people where just stupid idiots, but i had a great time - the other internationals were awesome and some of the americans too. so i made incredible friends i hope i'm gonna meet again soon! (already had a great trip to spain shortly before easter to meet a russian/spanish and an american girl  ) i guess you can have a great time everywhere

btw. i just wanted to mention that i think it's weird that americans (i don't know about canadians) actually wear university branded clothing   everyone here would be considered as weird...i guess we simply don't have that strong patriotism.

Minus the last bit it sounds like a pretty significant chunk of the peoples at my uni...Also apparently everyone hates the canadians (but I've yet to bump into one xD)

Where do you go?

And well hopefully I can find some poor people to hang out with lolol.

I also thought that video was funny because they were taking the piss... I didn't think it was meant to be taken seriously haha.

Universities in Canada/US are so different than they are here, will be weird not going to uni with mainly Eastern Europeans as I do now (which i love, explains the Romanian boyfriend).

And Vansch, we all wear Essex stuff at our uni :)

Ha. I might be going there next year. Are they seen as obnoxious? Torontonians get a bad rep, often deservedly.

Nice, how comes Leicester? In all honesty I can't see the appeal, they're one that I rejected for a number of reasons.
I didn't think the campus/area/atmosphere was nice at all.

They offer a lot of support for Canadian students for some reason. It's between that and Edinburgh but I haven't heard back from Edinburgh yet.

it's not really that bad...i mean, it's probably not the most spectacular place on earth (quite the opposite, actually), but at least they have public transport within morgantown and to the next bigger city and from there you can basically go everywhere  why do you hate it so much?

apparently even though west Virginia exists because Virginia seceded and became part of the confederacy during the civil war, and west Virginia stayed part of the united states, there are way more confederate flags in west Virginia.
