I dont know if you've heard but two sport commentators for Sky Sports News were heard off air, accidentally still on air, were extremely sexist about a female linesman.

All I have heard since is boys and men moaning and saying it's 'just a bit of banter' No. It wasn't banter at all, they were completely serious and it was like the fifth incident.
All I see are status' everywhere saying that women need to get over it as we are both equal and that it isnt an issue anymore, in fact most are saying that women are sexist for being mad.

It's making me so fucking pissed.

(I know i've already like hogged your fbook status over this.. hahaha, but oh well!)

People make silly jokes about men, about women, etc. etc.. and people are treating THIS like it was just a little light-hearted joke.. but.. did they actually hear it?! If they'd have left it at 'someone needs to teach her the offside rule', it would've probably have been fine - they'd have probably said that if a man had did the same thing!
But then they went into this crazy spiral in which they just slagged her off and said awful things just because she was a woman. They were really serious about their comments too.. people keep saying he shouldn't have been sacked but I think it was okay, he'd had all those warnings re. sexism before for a start! It wasn't a 'bit of banter'.. it was flat out sexism..

And that excuse like 'well his generation are typically sexist' LOL WHAT. That's no excuse!

LOL would +1 this.. already used my +1 at the top :(.

Can you imagine if a woman did this re. a man.. like I dunno, a female nurse or something, criticised a male nurse in the same way, saying he couldn't do his job, because he was male? THERE WOULD BE UPROAR. it certainly wouldn't be 'just banter' then..

I thought it was banter when I heard about it, but after the recording it's kinda clear that they're sexist. To be fair, they were shit commentators anyway. But if you want to change the values that Britain affects to folks, you have to start with people who have the power to hold influence over others. The only issue I hold with this is the little thought police aspect, especially considering that our government has currently managed to bend equality laws so they are not even about equality anymore, what can you accomplish under the banner of fairness that eventually won't be doublespoken into existence?

That said, if you want to tackle sexism and racism, you can't have people who hold those views where they can be held as rolemodels for those views, as it risks recycling those ideas. The only person I actually know who objects to how Gray and Keys been treated is my dad, showing that mostly our generation isn't -absolutely- batshit crazy, but efforts still have to be made to go one further and try and moderate what attitudes should be held to women. Things like NUTS and Page 3 are supposed to be a laugh, but sometimes people don't get it and it converts into reality, crossing over from a bit of "saucy" male gratification into the denigration of women and a new outburst of the competition for who is more sexually attractive. Those desires in turn create the ends and means and odds and sods that power capitalism, and at the end of the day is class is to be tackled then feminism is the next logical step if you want to go about revolution and equality in a reformist manner.
