I saw them at Leeds Fest and they were really boring. Every song sounded the same (I know that could be said about most punk bands but I still found them to be shit).

Green day, Blink 182, Anti-Flag and i can think of like 100 more punk bands that were around in the 90's

some say that anti-flag is pop-punk so its whatever. also i dont put nfg and fall out boy or all time low in the same genre

Ignoring the issue of sexuality of music genres (which I believe has already been addressed), I believe Green Day's Dookie (1994) was a major pop-punk hit which predated the formation of New Found Glory.
Of course, depending on how broadly you want to draw pop-punk it would arguably include a number of even earlier bands such as Descendents, The Offspring, etc.

Besides, grunge pre-dates the '90s.

Contrary to popular belief, grunge wasn't the only music genre in existence during the 90's.
