Anti-Flag General News

December 20, 2017

The mission of the Trump regime has been clear from day one, the normalization of bigotry. Dangerous rhetoric has become dangerous policy that has put countless in harms way. It is the responsibility of all to be on the side of the marginalized and scapegoated and that is the goal of the aim of the Silence=Violence Tour.

No longer can we allow people to sit on the sidelines in the fight for social and economic justice. Inaction makes you complicit. If oppressed people demanding space and dignity in our society is what is making you uncomfortable, perhaps it is because you are a bigot or fascist? We must spread empathy, not apathy. Our aim is to do that at every show we play across the US.

Our society can maintain a status quo of violence and hatred, go back to masking that same hatred and violence in neoliberal wrapping paper, or forge a new society that is inclusive, egalitarian and just for all. It is our optimistic view, even in these dark times, that the latter is within reach.

Each band on this tour is predicated upon an ethic of caring about more than just themselves. To carve out a few hours in a day, in each city, where we can be comfortable in our own skin… free from racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, bigotry of any kind… this is not an opportunity that any of us tread upon lightly. We’re excited to throw these small celebrations of unity in hopes that it can leave all that attend with a sense of community and organization that will help fuel our collective ability to create positive change and leave things better than we found them.

With every tour we do, we want to try to find a way to make it about more than just songs or records or a T-shirt or a band… bringing peta2, A Voice For The Innocent, and Love Hope Strength along on this run is an extension of that idea.

Like all Anti-Flag tours we will have a slew of other organizations tabling at each show, but to have these three organization committed to the entire tour is a great privilege for all of us involved in the Silence=Violence tour. To have a space for the culture’s consistently changing conversation on sexual assault and sexual violence, to have a space for the conversation about the ethical treatment of all living things, to have the space for a conversation on ways the people at the show can literally help save folks lives, is 100% what we believe punk rock should be about.

Without End (remix) featuring P.O.S and Tom Morello

November 14, 2016

Video directed and produced by Doug Helmick, along with animation and motion design by Chelsea Jones and Uppercut Studios. Track mixed/mastered by Justin Francis.

‘Without End,’ both the song and this video, is a continuation of our band’s mission to speak truth to power. Black Lives Do Matter! The refugee crisis is a result of the war-hawk culture of DC and these are human beings we should have empathy towards! Climate change is REAL and we must begin the argument over solutions instead of continuing to give space to the rhetoric of deniers. The rights of the LGBTQ community deserve to be respected! Women deserve equal pay and the right to control their own bodies! This is 2016, not 1956, when America was, in fact, not so great.

Our history will not be written by Donald Trump. It is important for us to speak out and organize when the future of fear and bigotry that he projects is not the one we believe in.

We are honored that Tom Morello and P.O.S have contributed to this track. Their collective history of using their art to challenge the status quo speaks for itself.

ROCK AGAINST THE TPP Pittsburgh is happening November 3 at Mr. Small’s Theatre! The show is FREE with RSVP:

PITTSBURGH, PA––Pittsburgh-based punk band Anti-Flag will headline a free concert at Mr Smalls Theater on Thursday, November 3rd, as part of the nationwide “Rock Against the TPP” tour, which features high profile musicians and celebrities sounding the alarm about the dangers of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, the unpopular corporate deal that has been a contentious issue this election year. The show runs from 6pm – 11pm and will also feature legendary Pittsburgh labor singer Anne Feeney, buzzworthy bi-lingual rockers Downtown Boys, plus Taina Asili, Evan Greer, Ryan Harvey, and Son of Nun, as well as speakers from a wide range of organizations opposing the TPP.

See more details and a full lineup here:

See PHOTOS & VIDEO from previous stops here.

The TPP has little to do with trade, but instead grants multinational corporations extraordinary new powers to threaten jobs, the environment, affordable medicine, free speech, and food safety.

Anti-Flag are one of the most popular musical acts to emerge from Pittsburgh, and tour extensively performing politically charged punk rock that’s half circle pit, half picket line. The band issued the following statement ahead of the November 3rd concert:

“The Rock Against The TPP shows that we have played across the US and Canada were so amazing that we had to curate one in our beloved hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Pittsburgh, an international epicenter of the labor movement  – a city where union loyalty and the fight for human rights courses through the veins of its citizens to this very day. The Rock Against The TPP shows are beyond educational, they’re inspirational. They are a true testament to music’s ability to bring people together and create positive change; a rally to energize us all to continue to fight against The TPP and all of the ills it will bring to the world.”

“The Trans-Pacific Partnership is not about ‘free trade,’ it’s about corruption,” said Evan Greer, campaign director of Fight for the Future and lead organizer of the tour, “we’re harnessing the power of music and culture to sound the alarm about this corporate power grab and stop it in its tracks.”

Organized by digital rights group Fight for the Future in partnership with legendary guitarist Tom Morello (Prophets of Rage, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave) and riot-folk singer Ryan Harvey’s record label Firebrand Records, previous stops on the Rock Against the TPP tour have featured high-profile participants including actress Evangeline Lilly, hip hop icon Talib Kweli, comedian Hari Kondabolu, Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra, legendary punk band Anti-Flag, Danbert Nobacon of the UK sensation Chumbawamba, and ANTI records songwriter Jolie Holland. The roadshow has already drawn large crowds in Denver, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Toronto.

The Rock Against the TPP tour brings together a broad coalition of supporters including digital rights groups, labor unions, environmental groups, and small businesses, and is sponsored by Backbone Campaign, Citizens Trade Campaign, Communications Workers of America (CWA), CREDO, Demand Progress, Friends of the Earth, the International Labor Rights Forum, Public Citizen, Sierra Club, SumOfUs, the Teamsters, and United Steelworkers. The Pittsburgh stop is also backed by the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, PA Fair Trade Coalition, and Fight Back Pittsburgh.
